Australia
Australia set out in 1996 to change the international wine market. They wanted recognition of their branded wines, with their signature style of soft, rich, consumer friendly wines to dominate. With easy to read labels that presented you with the grape varietal and in most cases a ‘cute critter’ their wines were fanatically received by the wine consumers of the world.
With more land mass than the United States, and plantings of grapes in almost every area of the country, Australia has recently started to change its focus on regionality to develop wines that are more stylistic to the specific wine growing areas.
