Canada

Although just an infant in the world of wine, with less than 150 years of wine making experience, Canada has produced ice, still and sparkling wine that is receiving increased recognition on the global stage. Being one of the most Northern wine growing regions, with the harshest winters in the world, Canada originally focused on producing hybrid varietals that could survive the winters. After years of closer analysis and experimentation of the differing wine growing regions, Canada has now been very successful in producing wines of all varietals.

The Vintner’s Quality Association or VQA is a regulatory agency responsible for wine appellations, labeling and winemaking standards in Ontario and British Columbia. The VQA symbol assures the consumer of quality production, content, varietal percentage, appellation, and vintage. The VQA only includes two hybrid grapes in their regulations, Vidal and Baco Noir.
