France
Although not the original birthplace of wine, France has become the standard for wine regulations and structure for which all other countries imitate. The French term ‘terroir’ takes into consideration the soil composition, the climate and the topography. Each of these factors determines which grape variety will best perform in the specific controlled areas. In France, the wine is an expression of the land.
Much like Italy, France is home to a variety of climates and terroir. This broad range of conditions allows for numerous styles of wines to be produced, ranging from the crisp, refined sparkling wines of the Champagne region to big, bold, complex Bordeaux red blends. One could explore almost every style of wine, without leaving the country of France.
