Washington

First planted in 1950’s with Cinsault, and then re-planting with Merlot and Chardonnay to accommodate the craze of the 1990’s, it is only within the last 10 years that Washington has successfully experimented with other varietals.

Washington is the second largest wine producing state in the US. The Columbia Valley, the largest appellation, covers a third of the state and carries over the border into Oregon. The Cascade Mountains play a key role in the Washington wine growing regions. They are responsible for keeping the wet climate of the west away from the vineyards sites to the east.
