After any iterations and countless hours of planning, Banished Brewing opened their doors in early 2022 and have quickly established themselves as one of Newfoundland’s most sought-after breweries. Their goal is to contribute to and enhance the craft beer community, create products that will evolve with their education and abilities, build a brand focused on quality, represent the arts, and have as much fun as possible along the way. With quality recipes, and label artwork done by Halifax’s own Paul Hammond, these delicious beers will impress both your eyes and palate.

Tasting Notes

Pouring a clear golden colour with aromas of freshly baked bread, honey, and subtle herbal notes. The palate is smooth and refreshing, reminiscent of the classic golden lagers known the world over. The finish is dry and crisp, with just a touch of bitterness on the finish.

Method

Dortmunder is a sub-style of golden German lager that in terms of profile, sits between a Helles Lager and a Pilsner. Very malt forward, crisp and round but with more noble hop character than a Helles, but not quite as hoppy and bitter as a Pilsner. Think of it as the “goldilocks” of golden lagers.

Banished wanted something crushable for this brew, enter Liquorsauce, a German Dortmunder lagered for 10 weeks before being packaged in the brightest label they could make.
