The winery is such a leader in as innovative farming techniques and new methods of reaching out to consumers. Dedication to making the highest quality wines and a commitment to family has followed a continuum as their first small vineyard has grown into a thriving internationally distributed wine company.

Tasting Notes

Dancing Bear Ranch sits on a 29-acre vineyard at an elevation between 1,100 and 1,900 feet on Howell Mountain. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines are rooted in well-drained volcanic soil and enjoy a variety of sun exposures on the steep hillsides. Careful crop management ensures optimal ripening and flavour development, while close monitoring during fermentation and maceration captures the fruit’s intense character before 19 months maturation in French oak (about 40% new) and blending. Cabernet Franc and Merlot round out the blend. Pronounced aromas of dark fruit, earth and forest floor precede a rich, concentrated and luscious palate wrapped with opulent and supple tannins. Only 30 bottles available at Bishop’s Cellar of this world class wine.

Our Thoughts

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Dancing Bear Ranch, a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot from Howell Mountain, is a superstar of the vintage. Beautiful notes of graphite, mulberries, blueberries and blackberries jump from the glass of this dense purple-colored 2012. Its full-bodied opulence, luscious texture, 45+-second finish, purity, texture and uncanny integration of all the component parts are beautiful to behold. This is a sensational, world-class Cabernet Sauvignon to drink early in life, or cellar for 10-15+ years. – Robert Parker
