The Mansard family is making Champagne since 1901, Benoni Mansard was the first member of the family to craft Champagne bottles from the family vineyards in Marne. Gaston Mansard, one of his sons joined the estate in 1926, then Michel, the grandfather of Maxime, the last generation currently in place took over and expanded the vineyards and acquired cellars in the heart of Epernay. Today Maxime and Vincent are the fifth generation operating the estate under the watchful eyes of their father Michel.  The winemaking secrets and know-how have been transferred from father to son. The estate spreads over 24 hectares scattered in 71 plots located on a patchwork of terroirs in the Marne Valley in the villages of Mareuil le Port, Cerseuil and in the Vitryat area. Only the best terroirs and grapes are kept for Champagne Gilles Mansard.

Tasting Notes

Lovely pale golden color with refined and persistent bubbles. The nose offers lovely hints of fresh fruits including pears, crisp apple, mineral and grilled nuts. The mouth is elegant with an excellent balance between structure and freshness. Long finish offering a complex bouquet of white fruits, flowers and flintstone.

Method

The Ancestral Brut is an assemblage of 50 % Chardonnay, 20 % Pinot Noir and 30 % de Pinot Meunier.  It includes 20 to 25 % reserve wines from the past two vintages.  The grapes are hand harvested and the wine is fermented a low temperatures in barrel with no malolactic fermentation to conserve the aromas and maintain freshness.  Minimal sulfur, unfiltered with a dosage of 7 g/l.
