Château Gros Moulin is a family domaine dating back to 1757.  Up until the late 1800s, the property practiced polyculture; there was a functioning grain mill on site to process the property’s wheat.  The estate grew from 1 hectare in 1757 to 15 hectares by 1977 as it was passed down to other family members throughout the generations.   Today Château Gros Moulin has 30 hectares of vines.  In 2010, after finishing his studies in agriculture in Angers, the 11th generation, Rémy Eymas, took over the estate from his father to continue the direct line of vignerons working the land and crafting wines as a fruit of their labour.

“Château Gros Moulin” is one of the 6 cuvees produced by the Eymas family in Bordeaux.  This Cote de Bourg is their most traditional red wine in their portfolio.

Tasting Notes

Cassis, spice, light wood notes on the nose and palate.  Medium bodied with ripe wild berries, cedar, wood spice and graphite notes.  Well integrated fine grained tannins make for a balanced and easy drinking great value Bordeaux.  Enjoy this with roast beef, oxtail stew, shepherd’s pie, rack of lamb with roasted potatoes or simply a baguette with paté.

Method

This wine is a blend of 40% Malbec, 40% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.  The grapes grow responsibly on clay-limestone and clay sand soils,  are machine harvested in three passes and sorted at the winery before undergoing a cold soak and temperature controlled fermentation initiated by ambient yeast in concrete tanks followed by 6 months ageing in French oak barrels ranging from 1,2 and 3 years use before the final assemblage and bottling.
