Clos du Val Stag’s Leap Cabernet Sauvignon (750ml)
Clos Du Val, French for “small vineyard estate of a small valley,” was founded in 1972 in the now legendary Stags Leap District by John Goelet and French winemaker Bernard Portet. After a worldwide search to purchase vineyard properties from which to craft world-class Bordeaux and Burgundy varietals, 150 acres in the now legendary Stags Leap District and 180 acres in the cool Carneros District were chosen, from which Clos Du Val Winery, a true Napa Valley icon, was born. Today, for Clos Du Val winemakers John Clews and Kristy Melton, it’s the fruit from these distinctive vineyards that serves as the foundation for crafting the balanced, terroir-driven wines of elegance for which Clos Du Val is known.
The crown jewel of Clos Du Val’s estate program is a majestic vineyard in the heart of Stags Leap District. Acquired in 1972, this coveted land is home to Clos Du Val, and features 100 acres and nine different clones of some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon in North America. Often referred to as a “valley within a valley,” the Stags Leap District is just three miles long and one mile wide. Celebrated for its ideal climate that draws in cool breezes from the San Pablo Bay, Stags Leap District produces wines with velvety tannins and pure varietal flavors, while retaining ideal natural acidity—qualities that are perfect for making exceptional, age-worthy wines. For more than four decades, the Hirondelle Estate Vineyard has been the source for some of the Napa Valley’s greatest Cabernet Sauvignons.
