All of the de Cherisey vines are premier cru, are at least 60 years old, and they encircle their ancient cellar in the Hameau de Blagny. Blagny is a hamlet in the hills between Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault in the Cote d’Or, Burgundy. Monks planted vines here in the 14th century. This area benefits from a slightly above average temperature, exposition and soil than the rest of Burgundy. Vigneron, Laurent Martelet, crafts outstanding wines from this land.
Tasting Notes
Open and expressive on the nose, with notes of orchard fruit. The palate has a rounded mouthfeel, yet vibrant acidity and a fine minerality give balance and depth to a pleasing ripe white fruit core. Long on the finish, with a touch of woodsmoke. Attractive Puligny in a classical vein. The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chalumaux is from vines just below Blagny. If you were a Chardonnay vine it wouldn’t be a bad place to put down your roots. The wine is loaded with white limestone and gives a very fine, intensely focused white Burgundy screaming with minerality. It doesn’t have have the renown of its neighbors, but it should.
