Family owned and operated, Domaine de Grand Pré winery was built on love and passion for Nova Scotia and exceptional wine and food. Hanspeter Stutz, owner and father, is a visionary who first took a leap of faith in 1994, trusting that something special could be established to grow the Nova Scotia wine industry. He wanted to create a world-class destination while building a future for his family. Hanspeter’s children and their partners manage the vineyards, the winery, the restaurant Le Caveau, and an inn that opened in 2022. Jurg Stutz is the winemaker at the estate and crafts polished and elegant wines year after year. The Domaine is known for its crisp and clean flavour profile and they pride themselves in using only 100 per cent Nova Scotian grown grapes.
Tasting Notes
Strawberries and cream on the nose. Red fruit, fresh and light autolytic notes on a dry harmonious palate. Enjoy as an aperitif, alongside various appetizers like smoked salmon or charcuterie but could easily accompany mains dishes of fish, seafood pastas or a roast or fried chicken.
Method
This Non-Vintage traditional method sparkling rose was made from carefully selected, hand-harvested Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes grown in Domaine de Grand Pré’s Melanson vineyard. This wine spent nearly 10 months aging on the lees, contributing to its rich texture and complexity. Disgorging took place in the spring of 2023 revealing the true expression of this exceptional wine. As a whole, Nova Scotia’s climate is well suited to sparkling wine, as the growing season ensures a higher level of acidity which allows for greater aging potential.
