Domaine Nicolas Bindi Mursaglia Blanc (750ml)
After having studied law in Paris, the pull to return home to his native land and vineyards was too strong to ignore. Nicolas Mariotti Bindi settled in Oletta, Corsica to live the life of a vigneron and winemaker. He celebrated his first vintage in 2007. He manages this 7 hectare estate using organic grape growing and winemaking principles. Vinification is all natural and only limited amounts of SO2 are used with amounts stated on the label.
The island’s sunny, warm, dry and mountainous climate are ideal grape growing conditions for Vermentino. The soil is high in mineral content which imparts interest and a fresh, clean taste. Bindi’s Vermentino has aromas of anise, fennel and white flowers. The palate is round with ripe tree fruit notes and balanced by a vein of acidity giving it lift and brightness on the finish.
The Nielluccio grape is said to be either indigenous to the island of Corsica or an identical clone of the Tuscan grape Sangiovese. Nevertheless, this particular offering from the aforementioned Mediterranean island is quite expressive with the nose reminiscent of dried flowers, sun-dried tomato, cherry and raspberry and the palate further asserting the red fruits with an added herbaceous character and a salty, brine finish. With high acidity and gripping tannins, this wine would benefit from 10-15 minutes in the fridge to obtain a moderate chill and can be paired with a number of tomato-based pasta dishes, as well as a variety of seafood!
