The domaine dates back to the 1950s. In the the 1980s Patrick Hudelot took over the family estate and took it to the next level. Today it has 22 hectares of vines in one of the most important regions of the Hautes Cotes de Nuits. In 2000 Patrick converted his practices to organic viticulture in order to protect consumers, vineyard and winery workers and the ecosystem from harmful chemicals. As of 2008 Patrick Hudelot has partenered with other Burgundian domaines from various appellations, acting as a negociants, and vinifying grapes in his own domaine, thus being able to expand his portfolio, now offering wines from various appellations, including Premiers Crus and Grands Crus.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of ripe tree fruit, notes of vanilla and fresh ground nutmeg. The palate is round, with ripe pear and peach flavours, well balanced with juicy acidity and a lingering pleasing finish. Enjoy with fish and richer seafood dishes, chicken with roasted root vegetables or soft creamy cheeses.
Method
This wine is made from the certified organic Chardonnay. The vines are on average 25-35 years old and located in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits appellation at an altitude of 300 and 400m above sea level, the site is gently sloped and has clay-limestone soils. The grapes are hand harvested, pressed and the must is cooled for clarification. Alcoholic fermentation takes place partly in vats and partly in oak barrels, under temperature control. The wine is then aged for 8 months in oak barrels (50% new barrels). During this ageing, malolactic fermentation takes place.
