Le Barroux is a small Provencal town located in the heart of the Vaucluse. Its twelfth century castle overhangs the stone-built village houses and picturesque alleys. In between the two famous mountains, the Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail, le Barroux is renowned as being an excellent tourist site, providing a magnificent view point. Nature surrounds the village, forests and fruit trees, intermingled with vines which paint a varying landscape of changing colors. The terraced vineyards, owned by the talented former pharmacist Philippe Gimel, extend over 16.5 ha of the hillside, at an elevation of between 900 to 1200 feet. It consists of 12.5 hectares of vines and 4 hectares of fruit trees and forest, on alternating terraces and slopes.
Bishop’s Cellar is pleased to get their hands on this limited quantity Rhone white wine! “Since 2012, I haven’t sold my white because it’s always drunk too soon,” Philippe Gimel.
Ripe stone fruit, white blossoms, honey and hazelnut on the nose. The palate is fat and richly textured with concentrated flavours and excellent persistence. Notes of sun ripe peach, honey, lavender and anise. Could be easily mistaken for top quality Chateauneuf-du-Pape blanc.
Organic and biodynamic viticulture. The grapes are handpicked, wild yeast fermented and the wine rests in stainless steel. Philippe Gimel bottles his wines with DIAM corks to ensure the wines are not affected by TCA (cork taint).
