Domaine Geoffrey de Nouël is located in the southern part of Touraine; Geoffrey is one of the region’s young and talented vignerons promoting the wines of this region and is to be watched. He received his degree in viticulture and œnologie in 2012 and worked with various growers and producers to hone his craft where he learned extensively about organic and biodynamic viticulture before embarking on his own project. His 7 hectare vineyard is comprised of Cabernet Franc, Chenin, Chardonnay and Côt (Malbec).
Tasting Notes
This is an unpretentious and honest red. It is expressive and brimming with fresh red fruit; cherry, strawyberry, plum, floral notes like violet and light spice. The palate is fresh, with good texture and fine tannins; overall perfectly balanced, easy to drink and to pair with a range of foods. Some pairing suggestions are roast chicken with herbs and roasted root vegetables, grilled asparagus, terrines and charcuterie.
Method
Biodynamic Cabernet Franc grapes are hand harvested and fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wine has no oak influence and is bottled unfiltered and with minimal sulfites added.
Our Thoughts
A juicy, fruit forward “natural” Cab Franc, made with minimal intervention and minimal sulfites. A bit hazy in the glass from not being filtered; smelling like freshly fermenting grapes, red berries, violet, potpourri; definitely natural but still clean (not quite Kombucha territory). A bit lively on the tongue, juicy, fresh, fruit forward and easy drinking, especially at just 12.4% ABV. More fruit focused then bell pepper or pencil lead. Enjoyed it slightly chilled with pizza.
