In 1886 a young couple decided to plant a small vineyard in the foothills of Mount Yerga, Baja Rioja.   Little did they know the importance this decision would have for the following generations.  Seven generations later, that simple vineyard has grown to 100 hectares and is Bodegas d. Mateos.  The winery has a variety of grapes planted on the estate of various ages and an extensive barrel cellar of predominantly French and some American oak for their ageing program.  They produce a a few ranges of wines, from varietal focused and easy drinking to classic terroir expressive styles.

Tasting Notes

Yellow with bright greenish hue.  The nose is delicately fruity with fresh apricot, hay and basil, fresh green herbs.  Medium bodied palate, fresh and well structured with a great balance between fruit, acidity and alcohol.

The Albarino grapes comes from Rias Baixas area.  After harvest they are de-stemmed, pressed and fermented in stainless steel.  The wine rests for 6 months in stainless steel tanks on the lees with weekly pumpovers before the wine is clarified, filtered and bottling.
