Longview is a stunning family owned Australian vineyard located just outside the historic township of Macclesfield in the Adelaide Hills. Set on undulating slopes reminiscent of old-world estates but unmistakably Australian, it has quickly established itself as one of the most awarded vineyards since its 2001 inaugural vintage.
Perfectly manicured vines, towering gum trees, gently undulating hills and big blue skies make up the backdrop at the stunning Longview Vineyard. As well as lush foliage and landscaped gardens, the property features rural-chic architecture that knits together this quintessential Australian landscape.
Longview Estates falls within Adelaide Hill’s cool-climate sites. Most of the rainfall occurs during the winter months, while the summers are warm and dry and the vineyards are cooled by the winds coming off of Lake Alexandria to the east and the coast to the South. These are ideal conditions for the development of flavours, aromatics, depth and structure in wine grapes.
Tasting Notes
Longview’s Shiraz Barbera takes the best of Australia and Italy and blends them together to create a harmonious, modern food wine. The Shiraz has all the hallmarks of cool-climate fruit — spicy, savoury with crunchy berries. The Barbera provides a juicy, cherry-like brightness and taut acid backbone that gives the wine wonderful structure. It is a wine that is extremely drinkable young but will develop well over 5 years.
Method
Sourced from a single vineyard and harvested by hand. De-stemmed and crushed before a cool, open top co-ferment. Matured in French Hogsheads for 12 months. Longview’s Shiraz Barbera takes the best of Australia and Italy and blends them together to create a harmonious, modern food wine.
Our Thoughts
This Australian Shiraz Barbera is a newer addition to our wine selection, and is absolutely delightful from the first sip onwards. A blend of Shiraz and Barbera, hand-harvested and aged for 12 months in French oak, the nose gives light vanilla, cooked blackberry, and slight spice that carry over onto the palate. Combined with full, rich tannins and surprisingly juicy acidity, this Shiraz Barbera is flavourful and balanced while still quite light on its feet. Easy to pair with your favorite charcuterie board or delicious on its own!

I should have read all the tasting notes. Hopefully this is much nicer after 5 years. I respectfully disagree with the “extremely drinkable young”, I have had a lot of Australian shiraz, this is not very nice. It burns the mouth and throat.
Again, it may be nicer after 5 years.
