Lumpp Givry 1er Cru Clos Jus (750ml)
In the 1970’s, Francois Lumpp and his brother inherited the family property in the Cote Chalonnaise and in 1991 founded his own label with his wife Isabelle. He established his vineyard using cuttings if older selected bud wood around Givry’s best premier cru sites on the mid to upper slopes of the hillsides. Givry is known for its refined and approachable red wines, with the best examples having the capacity to age as much as the premier crus of the Cote de Beaune. Lumpp is a vigneron making wine is a specific village; he planted and nurtured these vines himself and makes his own wine.
Made from Pinot Noir grapes from 26 year old vines growing on a soils classified as oxfordian, oolitic, red limestone, and clay (for you geology geeks). Southeastern sun exposure, 843 feet above sea level. Primary fermentation in stainless steel tanks with light punch downs, aged in barrel (70% new) for one year and racked only once before bottling.
“This wine is always among the best red wines in the Côte Chalonnaise, Lumpp’s Clos Jus is bold and concentrated with a ferrous note from its red soils. It’s intense and very aromatic, with rose-petal aromas, lots of palate weight and textured tannins complemented by 70% new oak.” Decanter 95pts
