Maison Harbour Gevrey Chambertin Combe au Moine (750ml)
In 2012 Nicholas and Colleen Harbour are North Americans who decided to quit their jobs, move to France and follow their passion for wine by starting a winery in Savigny-lès-Beaune, a village in the heart of the Côte-d’Or, Burgundy. On arrival in Burgundy they attended the wine school in Beaune. Before graduating the couple had already established their winery, a small négociant vinificateur, which they called, Maison Harbour. Maison Harbour produces a selection of Grand Cru, 1er Cru and Village Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays from across Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits (Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée) and Côte de Beaune (Corton, Pommard, Savigny-les-Beaune, Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay).
These wines are for the long time fans of classic Burgundy. They offer purity, precision, elegance and truth of place. The Harbours have acquired grape contract opportunities from very special vineyard sites. Their wines tend towards delicate, elegant and pure but also have an inherent power.
Produced in small numbers even by Burgundian standards the wines are sure to get harder to acquire.
It’s translucent dark ruby color sets the stage for a juicy nose of fresh red fruits, flinty with hints of forest floor, earth, spice, cherry and a touch of reduction. Supple, savory, pure and fresh. Concentrated red plums, red berries, rhubarb and clove. This wine has a mineral vein and beautiful tension from start to finish, and builds in character and intensity through the midpalate to the finish, complex, clean and structured with a nice backbone of citrusy acidity. Bright and minerally!
Ages in older oak barrels to allow the purity of fruit and terroir to shine through.
