Maxime Magnon Corbieres Rouge Rozeta (750ml)
Maxime Magnon is from Burgundy, however, he did not inherit land in this sought after part of France. This thirty something looked elsewhere and purchased some prime parcels of old vines in Corbieres, where he farms nine parcels over eleven hectares, some of which are very steep and at high altitude. His land falls within Hautes Corbières, a sub-appellation of Corbieres that borders Fitou. He rents a cellar to make his wines. He is certified organic and uses biodynamic practices in the vineyard.
This is a field blend of mostly Carignan with Grenache, Syrah, Grenache Gris, Macabou and Terret. The vines are between 50-60 years old and grow on a soil of limestone and schist with fissured rock. The grapes are handharvested, whole cluster fermentation and no sulfur used during vinification. The wine is then aged in previously used Burgundy barrels from a producer in Chassagne-Montrachet.
Curious about natural wines? Try this incredibly fresh example. The 2016 rozeta has intoxicating aromas of fresh strawberries, silky, juicy tannins and is chock full of personality. Organic? Sure. Biodynamic? You bet. Delicious? Naturally!
