The Champagne house was established in 1743 in Epernay in the Marne Valley region of Champagne by Claude Moet.  The house is credited with first producing vintage Champagne in 1840. Today it is the world’s largest Champagne house, producing close to 30 million bottlel annually!  Moet & Chandon exudes luxury; the house is part of Louis Vuitton Moët-Hennessy, they produce Champagne Dom Perignon and and make Hennessy Cognac.  Moët is much beloved by the British royals that is was the Champagne of choice at Charles and Diana’s 1981 wedding.

Branding aside, the house owns 1,150 hectares (2,840 acres) of vines planted on rich chalk soil, 50% are grands crus and 25% are premiers crus.  Their vineyards scattered throughout the Champagne region; in Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs, Vallée de la Marne, Sézanne and Aube.  This wide-ranging diversity of fruits and vineyards ensures the optimum selection of grapes, enabling them to maintain the constancy of Moët Impérial and the originality of great vintage Champagnes.

Tasting Notes

The Brut Imperial is Moet’s best selling Champagne. Aromas of apple, pear, peach and fresh baked bread. The palate if fruity with a medium body, well-balanced, exhibiting flavors of light toast, Gala apple, honey and ginger, with smoke and mineral notes underscoring hints of pear and peach. There’s lovely texture, with a firm backbone of juicy acidity and a nice length.

Method

Moët Impérial is the House’s iconic champagne. Created in 1869, it embodies Moët & Chandon’s unique style, a style distinguished by its bright fruitiness, its seductive palate and its elegant maturity.  Created from more than 100 different wines, of which 20% to 30% are reserve wines specially selected to enhance its maturity, complexity and constancy, the assemblage reflects the diversity and complementarity of the three grapes varietals.  The blend varies around 30-40% Pinot Noir, 30-40% Pinot Meunier and 20-30% Chardonnay.  7 g/liter dosage for a Brut style.
