Montevertine Pian del Ciampolo (750ml)
Montevertine is located on the hilltop hamlet of the same name in the heart of Chianti between Florence and Siena, just 3km from Radda. In 1967 Sergio Manetti acquired Montevertine as a vacation home for his family and then planted two hectares of vineyards, built a small cantina with the intention of making wine for family and friends. In 1971 after Manetti saw the great results he was achieving, he decided to devote himself entirely to the estate, vititculture and winemaking.
The main focus of Montevertine is obviously the respect for the native grapes of the region, resisting easy trends, which involves the adoption of foreign varietals. Therefore today’s vineyards (circa 23 acres) are exclusively planted with Sangiovese / Sangioveto, Canaiolo, Colorino and Malvasia Nera. Always a free spirit, all of Montevertine wines are made with out designation. They simply carry the winery name and a proprietal wine name.
A blend of Sangiovese (90%), Canaiolo (5%) and Colorino (5%). The wine is fermented in glass lined cement tanks for 25 days and aged for 18 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, approx. 6 months in the bottle before release.
Scent of raspberries, cherries and earth. A medium bodied finesse wine that speaks to its terroir. Balanced red berry fruit and spice.
