Occhipinti Frappato (750ml)
Arianna Occhipinti is a vigneron in Vittoria, Sicily who inherited her passion for the vine and wine at the young age of 16 when she attended VinItaly with her vigneron uncle of another iconic winery, COS. Though Arianna studied oenology at the University of Milan, she has taken a very hands off approach to grape growing and winemaking by following organic principles. She hand harvests only healthy grapes, relies on spontaneous fermentation and uses minimal sulfur.
This indigenous Sicilian grape makes red wine bursting with aromas of sweet red berries, incense and spice.
The Frappato grapes grow at an elevation of 280 m above sea level in medium density red sandy and chalky, limestone soil. The vines are on average 40 years old, some are Guyot trained and others alberello (goblet). Harvest takes place mid October, wild yeast fermentation with 30 days of maceration on the skins and 14 months of ageing in large 25Hl Slavonian oak barrels. The wine is bottled unfiltered.
