Painted Rock Syrah (750ml)
Painted Rock began with John and Trish Skinner’s belief that the Okanagan Valley had enormous and, largely unrealized, potential. While the area was long known for producing some of the world’s finest fruit, it was the wines produced from the 1980s “Vinifera Program” that convinced the Skinners that the Okanagan would one day be an internationally recognized wine region. The couple took three years to find an ideal location for their vineyard- finally, they found a spectacular 56 acre bench on Skaha Lake in Penticton.
Aromas of ripe, red fruit and florals jump out of the glass with raspberries, cherries, blackberries, and rosewater. Rounded and rich on the palate with ripe, silky tannins and further flavours of cracked pepper, vanilla and toasted coconut. Lingering pepper and baking spices on the finish.
“Okanagan Syrah is on a roll and this latest release from Painted Rock stands as a great example of that grape’s progress. From a glorious vintage, the wine is succulent, velvety and concentrated, with notes of plum sauce, cherry, pepper, leather and cured meat. So ripe, yet so spicy, balanced and fresh. Worth cellaring for up to a decade, but perfect now for such items as roast or grilled lamb or braised red-meat dishes.” -Beppi Crosariol, The Globe & Mail

The grapes were handpicked from two estate blocks. Each block is planted with a different clone of Syrah. The wine ferments for 21 days on the skins in tank, undergoing twice daily pump overs. Aged for 18 months in 30% new oak; 80% French oak and 20% American. The remainder was aged in 2nd and 3rd fill French oak.
