Robert Sirugue Vosne Romanee (750ml)
Domaine Robert Sirugue is a family-run estate based Vosne-Romanee, a village appellation in Burgundy’s Cote de Nuits region. All five Sirugue family members work in the cellar and Jean-Louis Sirugue’s son, manages most of the 11 hectare vineyard and vinification. The grapes are harvested manually and sorted in the vineyard or the cellar before a cool maceration to extract red fruit flavours. Minimal pigeage occurs, this is when the grape skins are repeatedly pushed down into the vats to mix with the juice and extract colour, but can also result in harsher tannins.
Aged partially in new oak, this wine is blended from the family’s 12 tiny plots within Vosne-Romanée. Lots of cherry fruit with a spicy and savoury note on the the palate. Ripe rounded tannins on the finish. This will show well early on, but will continue to develop for some years to come. Each parcel contributes its own distinct character – from the lighter, more fragrant to the riper, more opulent. The 2014 is slightly fuller than the 2013 but with the same cherry-red fruit character. A spicy, savoury note runs through the palate, with ripe, rounded tannins on the finish. This will show well early on its life and deliver a touch more complexity after three to four years in bottle. Drink 2017-2022
