This is a unique expression of terroir from the southeastern region of the Southern Rhône, along the lower slopes of the Mont Ventoux. Saint Jean du Barroux wines are grounded in the terroir of the lower slopes of the famous Mont Ventoux, near the road between Le Barroux and the town of Vaison la Romaine. The talented Philippe Gimel keeps his yields very low, in order to concentrate fruit flavour, and de-stems every handpicked bunch. A lot of attention and care goes into crafting these wines and this results in a final product that is pure with fine tannins and lots of flavour.

Tasting Notes

This wine is only made in the certain years and crafted in a different style each time, depending on what is possible. In this vintage, the wine is 100% Syrah, using 1/3 old barrels and 2/3 stainless steel. A wild and herbal expression of Syrah with violets, bacon fat and spice. Medium- to full-bodied, with firm, muscular, mouth-coating, slightly powdery tannins; big in structure, but not in extraction. Great purity and freshness in the wine, an extraordinary expression of Syrah. Only 1,300 bottles made.
