Today, all forty-two hectares of vineyards are farmed by the brother team of Emmanuel and Thierry Delaille, with help from their father Gilbert. They have carried on the traditions established by their ancestors, producing a true, classic Cheverny that is both simple and elegant. Cheverny is a relatively new Appellation Origine Controllee (as of 1993) in France’s Loire Valley.
Tasting Notes
This fresh and bright red is very enjoyable in all its simplicity. It has a pretty nose of strawberries and cherries that carries through on the light bodied and vibrant palate. A wonderful wine with light fare and mildly spicy foods. It’s a style of red that is well suited to warm weather drinking and shows well when slightly chilled.
Method
It is a blend of 55% Pinot Noir, 43% Gamay and 2% Cot (which is the local name for the Malbec grape).
Our Thoughts
Always a treat to crack open a bottle of Salvard wine. The Cheverny Rouge is an almost equal blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay, with aromatic notes of tart cherry, strawberry, sweet spice, and earthy undertones. The palate is fresh and lean, with lively acidity.
