Serge Férigoule tends to 17 hectares in Vacqueyras, on the great Plateau des Garrigues, where red clay, limestone, and the famous galets roulés, or rounded stones, impart a terrific intensity and depth to the wines. The arid soils mean that the vines produce low yields; the fruit is concentrated and powerful. Serge has been farming organically and biodynamically for years but has never sought certification.

Tasting Notes

Lopy is a blend of old vine Grenache (over 65 year old vines) and Syrah (40 year old vines). The wine is aged for 12-15 months in used 450-litre casks before being bottled unfiltered and unfined. The nose is initially subtle then gradually opens up, delivering pepper, licorice, leather, cocoa and fruit liqueur. The palate is rich and sumptuous, though supported by bright acidity. This wine is a classic for Rhone lovers; wild and chewy with notes of leather, spice, garrigue, black fruit and enticing smokiness.
