Back in stock after a few year hiatus!

A relative newcomer to the Barvarian brewing scene, Schanzenbrau opened their doors in 2008 in the city of Nurembrug. They started out brewing in the backyard of a basement warehouse and have since gone on to gather international acclaim and accolades for their no nonsense approach to well-crafted lagers.

Tasting Notes

This style of “red beer” is a recipe that goes back to the 1500’s in Nuremberg. Rotbier is bottom fermented, unfiltered and full bodied with just the right amount of hops. Beers like this are all about balance, there is a noticeable rich malt flavour of brown bread and caramelized sugars but the taste is perfectly balanced by herbal and spicy hop character that leads into a dry finish.

Not exactly a defined beer style, “Red Lager” can mean different things, but the focus is on deeply rich yet easy to drink amber malt flavours. Brewed with Hallertauer, Spalter select, and Mandarina Bavaria hops to provide subtle earthy and herbal background notes. The Vienna, Melanoidin, and Caramel malts are the stars here, with complex depth and supreme balance.
