After years in the restaurant industry, Dan Tanner started to shift his focus to wine, and while enrolled in sommelier classes, he began to take interest in beer. Fast forward – after a few years of slow growth from his garage, to farmers markets, to recently, a taproom in Chester, Dan has certainly taken the time to do things right. His beers are always a joy to drink, when you can find them. Bishops Cellar is very happy to finally be able to showcase Tanner Brews to even more folks around the province!

Tasting Notes

Pale Ale is Tanner’s house style everyday beer. They produced this beer to be a medium bodied,  fairly malt forward in style with a bit of citrus and tropical fruit from the hops. Think not an ESB but not quite an APA either.

20 IBU

Method

This beer uses a base grain called Maris Otter, a premium British malt that gives a richness & nutty character to add a bit of complexity. American hop varieties Simcoe & Citra were used sparingly for both IBUs and flavours.

Our Thoughts

This Pale Ale is my kind of beer; a slightly honeyed, still very dry, smooth and bitter Ale that is as malty as it is refreshing—a smashing attempt by Tanner & Co to bridge the gap between American and British Pale Ales. If you (like me) are a fan of English Best Bitters and Pub Ales, I implore you to try this beer.
