Tinto Negro is a collaboration between friends and colleagues Alejandro Sejanovich and Jeff Mausbach, who worked for 15 years together at Bodega Catena Zapata as Vineyard Director and Wine Education Director.


Tasting Notes

The Primera Zona of the Lujan de Cuyo and Maipu areas are located 10 miles to the south, southwest of the city of Mendoza.  Lujan de Cuyo and Maipu have a deep soil profile with a clay and loam texture. This alluvial valley has some of the heavier soils in Mendoza with higher levels of water retention than most other areas in Mendoza.

This cool soil produces Malbecs with bright red fruit flavors, a soft, supple texture with a spicy finish.


The wines reflect the classic characteristics of Mendoza Malbec, inky and concentrated reds grown at elevations of 3700 to 5000 feet. The vines for this wine were planted in 1955! The wine is fermented in concrete eggs and aged for 15 months in French oak, 28% of which is new.
