Claudio Barbi founded Decugnano dei Barbi in 1973 in Orvieto, Umbria. They produced their first wines in 1979. The area has a unique terroir; an ocean from the Pliocene period once covered the land, so the soil is rich in sandy clay, fossils of sea shells and oysters that enrich the wines with minerals and marine flavors. The vineyards lie at an altitude of over 300 meters above sea level which contributes to the a diurnal temperature variation and increases aromatics. The optimal exposure guarantees the perfect maturity of the grapes.
Tasting Notes
It is well balanced with intense flavors of cherry, plum, and leather backed by hints of clove and spice.
Method
The Battito is a soft and pleasant wine sourced from estate vineyards grown in soils rich with fossilized shells and oysters.
