Villa Marchesi is a line of wines made by CABERT, a producer with large expanses of vineyards located in Bertiolo, in the province of Udine in the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Founded in 1960, Cantina di Bertiolo processes the grapes of 60 winegrowers who are, at the same time, the shareholders of CABERT. Their winegrowers have centuries of passion behind them, as well as a sincere attention for their vines, and a cultural heritage handed down from generation to generation.
Tasting Notes
Pale yellow in colour. Citrus, tree fruit and acacia notes on the nose. The palate is dry with a pleasing mellow texture, light citrus and pear flavours and characteristic bitter almond on the finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or pair with with seafood, salads or chicken dishes.
Method
Made from Pinot Grigio grapes from the Friuli (or Friuli Venezia Giulia) region of northeast Italy. The grapes are pressed after harvesting and the juice is cool fermented with selected yeasts for 8-10 days in stainless steel tanks. The wine rests for a period in tank and bottle before it is released within the year of the vintage.
Our Thoughts
When I think of an ideal, refreshing Pinot Grigio, the Villa Marchesi always comes to mind. Cold fermentation and a week spent in stainless steel tanks gives this wine a crisp, clean mouthfeel, while the growing conditions of the Friuli region in Northeast Italy bring forward trademark notes of fresh citrus and ripe green pear. Serve this as chilled as possible; it is a fantastic accompaniment to any shellfish dishes or simple, light salads!
