The Fleith name has deep roots in Alsatian viticulture. In 1661 Antoine Fleith planted a vineyard here. Skip a head a few generations to the 1970s where René Fleith establishes 4 hectares of vines and a wine estate and began to sell his wines. Today, Vincent Fleith, looks after wine production at the estate. He took some time to work in the wine industries of California, Australia and Beaujolais and returned home to Alsace to run the now 9 hectare estate. He practices biodynamic viticulture and is a member of the association Vignes Vivantes. His commitment producing authentic wines that express terroir is evident in each sip.
Tasting Notes
Pronounced aromatics of rose, orange blossom and ginger. Medium to full palate, just a note of residual sweetness adding textural depth and roundness, fruit, floral and spicy with a long finish. Wonderfully balanced.
Method
This is Gewurtztraminer is part the Vincent Fleith’s Terroir range of wines and classified as “Alsace AOC”. The grapes grow on clay limestone soil and hand harvested. At 14% alcohol and just 8 grams of natural residual sugar, the grapes were obviously harvested when very ripe, so expect a rich and concentrated Gewurtz that will make the perfect partner to a cheese plate, especially if includes blue veined and funky pungent cheeses!
