Originally brewed near Munich in the 17th century for fasting Benedictine monks, doppelbocks have become one of the most celebrated dark lager styles of Germany. Alcohol is high, with aromas and flavours of toffee, roasted grain, sweet dark fruit, brown bread and nuts. The palate is medium-full bodied with some residual sweetness and a creamy carbonation. A real wintertime brew.
