Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon

Co-founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn in 1976, Duckhorn Vineyards has spent forty years establishing itself as one of North America’s premier producers of Napa Valley wines. From its modest inaugural vintage of 800 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon and 800 cases of Merlot in 1978, to its addition of Sauvignon Blanc in 1982, Duckhorn Vineyards has crafted a tradition of quality and excellence that continues today.  The winery’s seven estate vineyards are located in alluvial fans of Napa Valley and the much sought after Howell Mountain slopes.

Since 2014 the wines are made under the guidance of accomplished head winemaker Renée Ary who started at Duckhorn as an assistant winemaker in 2003 and has been producing knock out wines since that time.  Winemaker Renee Ary works with each vineyard block separately and harvests when flavours are optimal and tannins are their softest. She approaches winemaking in an artisanal manner, by tasting and blending from close to 200 lots, separately barrel ageing each lot in oak from various cooperages. The result are wines of great finesse, personality and depth.

Astrolabe Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

An astrolabe is an ancient astronomical instrument that was used to make a diverse range of calculations. Its name translates as ‘star-taker’. A mariner’s astrolabe, modified for use upon a ship, was used by early navigators to determine latitude by measuring the altitude of a celestial object. French explorer Dumont d’Urville charted the Marlborough coast in 1827 aboard a ship named L’Astrolabe. When career winemaker Simon Waghorn wanted to start his own label in 1996, he chose the name Astrolabe because of the historic ties with Marlborough, and he liked the connotations of exploration and discovery.

Simon choose to live and work in Marlborough because he believes the grapes are the best in the world.  He enjoys working with diverse terroir of Marlborough’s sub-regions to capture the intensity and brightness of the fruit and craft complex, individual wines.

All grapes are sourced from ten families who live on their land and farm sustainably.  These are long established and close relationships to  dedicated growers who understand the rhythms of the land and know how to grow grapes that express the terroir. These sites are spread across the Marlborough sub-regions, giving a diversity of soil profile and mesoclimate. Each vineyard was chosen for the distinctive flavour it produces.

Bouchon Reserva Chardonnay

Bouchon Family Vineyards’ history began with an adventurous young French man’s dream almost a century and a half ago. Emile Bouchon left his little home of small winegrowers in Arveyres, near Burdeos, France, to board on a ship, towards Chile in the spring of 1887.  Emile came hired as a winemaker adviser and throughout many years of efforts, he was able to purchase an antique wine cellar in Colchagua Valley, turning it into one of the most prominent vineyards of that time.  His children and eventually his grandson would continue his legacy.  His grandson Julio studied enology in Bordeaux and expanded the Bouchon project. He fell in love with the granitic soils in the interior dry area in Maule Valley, acquiring Mingre state in 1977, a distant property, which had old dry farmed vineyards.

Today the winery is operated by the fourth generation of the Bouchon family and a team of expert viticulturalists and winemakers working on continued innovation in the vineyards and winery.  They are in the process of acquiring organic certification for their vineyards and wines, though some of their vineyards are currently certified organic.

Domaine Houchart Rose

At the foot of the Sainte Victoire mountain, 15 kms from Aix en Provence, in the commune of Puyloubier, this domaine was bought in 1890 by Aurélien Houchart, a negociant and friend of Cézanne and great-grand father of Geneviève Quiot. This family estate has been farmed since Roman times, some distance away from the “Via Aurelia”.

Aurélien Houchart created one of the largest estates in Provence. The Domaine was later divided amongst his five children and Geneviève Quiot inherited 50 hectares of vines from her grandfather. She runs the Domaine today. Located about 25km east of Aix-En-Provence, the vines are old, between 30 and 50 years, and the grape varieties grown are typical to Provence; With 50 hectares under vine, there is a variety of soil types; sandy, chalky, clay and silt which ensures that the vines have proper drainage and produce and grapes that can develop a variety of interesting characteristics.
