Gachot-Monot Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Beaune

Five successive generations have been at the head of this family run estate created around 1890.  Situated in Corgoloin on the border of Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune, the estate is today managed by Damien and Liselotte Gachot.

The recent history of the domain is highlighted by two women who contributed to the domaine’s longevity :  Marguerite Monot who ran the vineyard alone from 1950 to 1980 and her only daughter, Marie Therese, who, with the help of her husband Jean Pierre Gachot renovated, replanted and gave their name to the Domaine. After completing his wine studies and with 10 months experience in California, Damien Gachot joined his mother in the domain in 1993 working and shaping the domain to its current form.  The wines of Gachot-Monot represent excellent value in Burgundian wines. This fifth-generation vigneron farms twelve hectares in the village of Corgoloin, in between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune.  They first came to Kermit’s attention via the master of La Tâche himself, Aubert de Villaine and another great Burgundian producer, Bertrand Chevillon. Damien was first saluted by the Hospices de Beaune as a young talent to be watched. Kermit Lynch has been importing his wines since the 2000 vintage.

Briccolina Barolo DOCG 2018

L’Azienda Agricola La Briccolina, in Serralunga d’Alba, has been in the Grasso family for five generations. The farm is surrounded by a natural amphitheater of vineyards that boast a south west and south east exposure and an elevation of 350 m above sea level. Grasso’s have been growing quality grapes for 50 years to supply Barolo producers and decided to vinify some of their own grapes to produce a limited a 3000 bottle a year production; their first commercial release was the 2012 vintage from grapes sourced from the oldest part of the vineyards. From these 50 year old vines planted on mixed limestone and marl soil, Tiziano Grasso’s Barolo La Briccolina was born. Tiziano’s intention in crafting this wine was to bring to the glass the essence of the land through the Nebbiolo grape; a grape that can wonderfully express terroir.  In May of 2017, Tiziano passed away tragically in a work related accident. His wife Simona and his son Daniele continue on with his project that had only just begun.

Joseph Cattin Reserve Gewurztraminer

In the late 17th century, François Cattin, born in Porrentruy, Switzerland, came to settle in this small Alsatian village of  Voegtlinshoffen located 10 kilometers south of Colmar. In 1720, François Cattin decided to become a winemaker in addition to his job as a builder. The next 11 generations continued his legacy and this is how the family business started!  Around 1850, Antoine Cattin decided to focus exclusively on the profession of winemaking. He marked the beginning of specialization that was carried on by all his descendents. One of his sons, Joseph took over the family-owned Estate.  At the end of the 19th century, the phylloxera plague seriously damaged Alsatian vineyards. Joseph Cattin dedicated his time fighting against this plague. He became one of the pioneers of the Alsatian viticulture by being rewarded with the diploma of « Vignoble modèle ». His brother, Théodore, established the restaurant La Cigogne in Paris. This place, renowned for its famous Alsatian gastronomy, was well frequented with the Parisian upper class as well as many foreign guests and became an excellent shop front to promote Joseph’s Alsatian wines.  Hence the Joseph Cattin as a brand was born!

Today Joseph’s great great grandson, Jacques Cattin Junior, an engineer, agronomist and winemaker, and he and his wife Anaïs head the estate.  They craft varietal wines that are pure expressions of the Alsatian style.

Chateau Argadens Rouge

In 2002, Maison Sichel bought a property in Saint-André-du-Bois 60 km south of Bordeaux and renamed it Château Argadens in reference to the noble family which founded the estate in the thirteenth century.  A major investment programme was launched at Château Argadens to restructure the vineyard, increase plantation density, modernise the winery and build an ageing cellar. Efforts are going on to ensure that this work is carried out with the greatest precision and care, the objective being to allow the quality of the terroir to be expressed to the full.

Château Argadens produces one white and one red wine.  Château d’Argadens has earned a place among the best wines in its appellation of Bordeaux Supérieur.

Luxardo Aperitivo

Luxardo is a family-owned company founded in Zara, a port city on the Dalmatian coast of what is now Croatia. Girolamo Luxardo, a Genovese businessman, and his wife, Maria Canevari, moved to Zara in 1817. It was Maria who began perfecting “rosolio maraschino,” a liqueur produced in Dalmatian convents since medieval times from special maraschino cherries. In 1913, Michelangelo Luxardo built the most modern and massive distillery in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but it was destroyed in World War II by Anglo-American bombings. Only one member of the fourth generation, Giorgio Luxardo, survived the World War II invasion and fled to Italy. Escaping with only a cherry sapling, Giorgio crossed the Adriatic Sea to the Veneto region of northeast Italy and reconnected with a colleague who had saved the Luxardo recipe book. Armed with the surviving tools and a desire to reestablish his family’s legacy, Giorgio chose the small Veneto city of Torreglia to rebuild the distillery in 1946. At this new home, Luxardo restored its extensive product line of Italian liqueurs and continued to export the products to markets around the world. Luxardo continues to produce Maraschino to Maria Canevari’s original recipe, as it was written down in 1821. Today, Luxardo is operated by Franco Luxardo of the family’s fifth generation, along with members of the sixth.

Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino

Historically the land of Montalcino was poorly populated and hardly cultivated; it was a land of sheep farmers.  It was here in 1975 that lawyer, Gabriele Mastrojanni bought the San Pio and Loreto estates and decided to plant his first vineyards, of which part are still producing Mastrojanni wines today.  In the early years, only a few entered the wine-making adventure in Montalcino.  Today, thanks to an exceptional terroir and the pioneers who believed in its winemaking potential for decades, Mastrojanni finds itself amongst the most respected Montalcino producers.  It is here that the singular Sangiovese Grosso grape is at its best.  Today Andrea Machetti is the head of the estate and works alongside winemaker Maurizio Castelli.  They oversee all production processes and take a minimal interventionist approach in their winemaking; striving to showcase the Montalcino terroir as it is best expressed through the Sangiovese Grosso grape.

Rolly Gassmann Pinot Blanc

The Gassmann family has been making wine in the village of Rorschwihr since 1661.  The current domaine name dates to the 1967 marriage of Marie-Therese Rolly and Louis Gassmann.  Today the estate is largely managed by their son Pierre Gassmann.  With 126 acres under vine and vast cellars extending six stories deep under their hillside and capable of holding a million bottles of wine, Domaine Rolly-Gassman makes some of the most compelling wines in Alsace.  In 1997 they added a biodynamic philosophy to their traditional ongoing approach of minimal interference with the vines. Pierre has an in-depth knowledge of estate’s terroir (a complex mosaic of limestone and marls), focuses on low yields and rigorously selects grapes.

Each plot is vinified separately using a very slow fermentation with wild natural yeasts. Fermentations generally stop in winter in their cool, deep cellars, leaving significant residual sweetness in many of the wines. The result is lush and balanced style and a certain velvety sweetness that characterizes the wines.  It is only as wines are tasted and deemed appropriately aged that the wines are released to the market, sometimes as many as 20 years after bottling.  Pierre Gassmann insists on late harvesting and lengthy cellaring after bottling, creating luscious yet balanced styles.

Champagne Taittinger Brut

Taittinger is one of Champagne’s great houses.  It was founded in 1734 by Jacques Fourneaux in Reims whose vision grew into the large company it is today.  The Taittinger family has managed the Champagne House for nearly a century. Its aim has always been the pursuit of excellence. “Having our family name on a bottle places demands and responsibilities on every minute. The name on the bottle conveys both the skills and knowledge of the past and a commitment to the future”. Pierre Emmanuel Taittinger has embodied this commitment for over 40 years.  His son, Clovis and his daughter, Vitalie who both worked beside him in the day to day running of the Champagne House made a very close-knit and complementary family trio.  As of 2019 Vitalie Taittinger stepped in as the company’s president, taking over for her father, Pierre-Emmanuel. Brother Clovis was announced as the new General Manager and the Director of Marketing and Sales worldwide.

With 288 hectares of vines, the Taittinger family is amongst the largest vineyard owners in Champagne. The vineyard is planted to all three Champagne grapes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier distributed equally across 37 highly-rated vineyards.  Taittinger Champagne is characterized by its high proportion of Chardonnay in the blend. The house produces a few styles; both non vintage as well as exceptional vintage dated Champagnes.

Veuve Olivier Brut Sparkling

Les Grands Chai de France is a family-owned and operated winery, founded by Joseph Helfrich in 1979. The family’s history started in a small village in Alsace, Kirrwiller when Joseph started to sell Alsacian spirits. Joseph quickly realized that French wines were hard to understand for consumers, due to the complicated ranking & appellation systems. He decided to create a French wine brand, focusing on highlighting grape varieties, instead of appellations.  This is how Joseph created what is today, the number one French wine brand sold in the world. Today, Joseph and his family still run the family’s business, which has quite expended, as the family owns more than 60 properties all over France.  One of the Domaine of expertise of GCF is sparkling wines. Whether it is traditional or Charmat method, the company has tied long-term contract with family growers, precise sourcing to maintain high-quality standards & sustainability.

One of their brands is Veuve Olivier Sparkling wines.  Family Olivier has been in wine business for decades. Originally from the Bordeaux region, the family decided to extend its range of products by buying vineyards to elaborate quality sparkling wines. When François Olivier, the owner of the family business passed away his wife decided to focus on the sparkling wine only, as it was his favorite. She changed the brand and launched it under the name Veueve Olivier.
