Guillaume Demoulin is the fourth generation of his family to farm the vineyards of Château de Trinquevedel. The eighteenth-century château was purchased in 1936, the same year that the Tavel A.O.C was established. Tavel is the only Southern Rhone Cru that is entirely made up of rosé. No more than sixty percent of the final blend can be made up of the noble Grenache grape. Guillaume and his wife Céline farm thirty-two hectares of vines situated in the hills of the Montagne Noire. Their stony vineyards are similar to those of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the climate and sun exposure produce grapes with tremendous concentration and power.

Tasting Notes

Château de Trinquevedel rosé is characterized by aromas of ripe, red berries and classic notes of sweetly spicy garrigue.  This is a fuller bodied dry rosé with lots of structure which makes it ideally suited to more complex dishes from seafood pastas, Mediterranean mezze, grilled meats, lamb kebabs.

Method

The grapes are sourced from the estate’s oldest vines. (80-85 years old). This rose is a blend of 60% Grenache, 13% Clairette, 13% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, 3% Mourvèdre, 1% Bourboulenc.  The grapes are crushed and undergo a cold skin maceration for 12 to 48 hours in cement tank before pressing.  Alcoholic fermentation lasts 20 days in cement tank, at 17°C with no malolactic fermentation.  The wine is aged in enamel-lined, stainless-steel tanks for 6 to 9 months.

Our Thoughts

Tavel Rose is an excellent option for those looking for a little more oomph from their Rose. It offers more weight, structure, and texture than your typical Southern French Rose with a more prominent garrigue/scrub note, evocative of the brushland in the Mediterranean. Very suited to food pairing with all sorts of dishes (particularly lamb or other Mediterranean dishes), this wine blurs the line between a Rose and light red but with far more power than you might expect. Keep your eyes peeled for the magnum size if you’d like to double your fun.
