Benjamin Bridge vineyards are located in the heart of the Gaspereau Valley on the Bay of Fundy, where the cool climate bears an uncanny affinity with the Champagne region of France. The estate makes a range of wines;sparkling, white, red, rose, dry and sweet. Though the focus is on making world-class Méthode Classique sparkling wines that have been compared in tastings to Champagne. The hand crafted wines of Benjamin Bridge have helped raise the profile of the Nova Scotian wine industry.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, a pale golden colour with a light straw hue. On the nose, suggestions of freshly cut melon and zesty lime peel that are complicated by hints of smoke. On the palate, rich notes of baked granny smith apples and roasted hazelnuts lead to a long, lingering finish. A wine of substantial proportion, marrying intensity and elegance. It’s a treat to exprience the development of a mature tradional method sparkling wine as it gains complexity in the bottle over the years. This is a wonderful example of the aging potential of Nova Scotia tradional method sparkling wines. Enjoy as an aperitif with oysters or Nova Scotia smoked salmon, pair with a cheese platter or serve it with a summertime seafood feast.
Method
The 2012 vintage was hot but had cool nights during veraison allowing for another elongated growing season where the grapes could reach phenolic maturity without losing key acidity. Composed of 100% vinifera grapes, the base wine of the 2012 Brut (90% stainless steel, 10% neutral oak) is aged with no malolactic fermentation allowing it to retain freshness. After 4 years on lees (a requirement of our Brut program), the wine has greatly matured yet still retains its stamp of crisp acidity and saline minerality. RS 10g/L.
