The Bousquet family originally hail from the city of Carcassonne, in the South of France. In 1990, third-generation winemaker Jean Bousquet, took a trip to Argentina and fell in love with the Gualtallary Valley; a scenic, remote, arid terrain high in the Tupungato district of the Uco Valley in Argentina’s Mendoza region, close to the border with Chile. The location is ideal for organic viticulture.
Bousquet’s daughter, economist Anne Bousquet, and her husband Labid Al Ameri, a successful trader, found themselves increasingly drawn to the cause, including the opportunity it offered to put their shared philosophy on sustainability into effect. After a 2002 trip to Argentina, the couple began to invest in Domaine Bousquet. In 2005, Al Ameri joined his father-in-law full time, helping with the construction of the winery. Anne continued her work as an economist, before joining the company in 2008. In 2009, the couple moved to Tupungato full-time, assuming full ownership of Domaine Bousquet in 2011.
Today, Domaine Bousquet produces 4 million liters a year and export 95% of its volume to more than 50 countries.
Tasting Notes
Deep violet color. Intense aromas of blackberry with notes of red and blackcurrant and plum. The palate is medium to full bodied with ripe dark fruit notes, ripe plum, blackberry and chocolate. The tannins are ripe, soft and elegant. Enjoy this smooth and easy drinking Malbec with beef, pasta with meat sauces, cheeses and pizza.
Method
Domaine Bousquet’s premium varietal series comprises a blend of estate and purchased fruit from the Uco Valley. The grapes benefit from major diurnal temperature swings, achieving exuberant ripeness while retaining the juiciness that invites a second glass. The wines are un-oaked – an on-trend sensibility of little or no oak to let the fruit shine through and make the wines extremely food-friendly.
This wine is 100% Malbec, fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve its varietal typicity and achieve a fruity and expressive character.
