The Rioja wine region is characterized by its red clay soils high in mineral deposits, abundant sunshine and a continental climate. El Guardián are birds, which are often seen in the Rioja vineyards, eating insects and other vine pests. It’s said the presence of El Guardián birds limits the use of insecticides and helps promote more sustainable viticultural practices.
Tasting Notes
This Viura is a great alternative to Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc. It has a pleasant nose with nuances of ripe tree fruit, white peach and citrus. The palate is light bodied, bright, crisp and dry making it an ideal aperitif and a suitable match for a range of seafood dishes.
Method
The central region of Rioja (villages of Alberite, Villamediana, Entrena, Clavijo) is characterized by its poor soils. This with the region’s continental climate and the orientation of its vineyards (south), makes this an ideal terroir to ripen Viura grapes. This wine is made for early consumption and with a focus on primary fruit aromas and flavours.
