Monte del Fra is located in Custoza, not far from morainic hills of Lake Garda in the Veneto region. Monte del Frà was originally founded as a monastery of the Friars of Santa Maria Della Scala. The winery has been in the hands of the Bonomo family since 1958, who own 140 hectares of land.
Today, the property has about 200 hectares of vines in the Custoza, Valpolicella Classica, Lugana, and Bardolino areas making it a leading Venetian quality winemaker. Monte del Frà takes great care of the land on which it grows its vines, they work with foresight and truly promote sustainability. They employ a local workforce and use local materials, work with recycled paper, sustainable glass and circular use of energy and water resources.
Tasting Notes
This is a rich white wine with aromas of quince, ripe pear, baked apple, floral and honey notes. Truly a unique white blend resulting in a memorable taste experience. This wine has great potential for aging. It will pair well with a variety of pasta dishes and hearty Italian soups, fresh water fish or a roasted chicken with herbs.
Method
Known worldwide for its extraordinary characteristics, Cà del Magro is the most renowned Custoza wine by Monte del Frà. Cà del Magro comes from a 55 year old vineyard. A blend of Garganaga, Trebbiano Toscano, Cortese and Incrocio Manzoni (aka Pinot Bianco x Riesling Renano) are harvested, cold soaked for maximum aromatic extraction and softly pressed before fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks and a period on the lees with frequent and soft pump overs. The wine then rests a few months in cement vats before bottling. The maturation process takes place in the bottle for at least 6 months before being released.
