Piqueras Los Losares Monastrell (750ml)

Los Losares Monastrell is made entirely using Monastrell grapes from a single vineyard plot.   The grapes were hand harvested in mid-October. Once in the tank, underwent a 4 day cold-temperature pre-maceration to give the wine more colour, freshness, and fruit aromas. Fermentation lasted about 10 days at 26 °C, then the wine rested the grape skins for 3 days with gentle daily pumping over to extract the fine tannins. Malolactic fermentation stainless-steel tanks and a gentle bâtonnage to stir the fine lees for 3 months, enhancing the wine’s volume.  The wine was then racked by gravity to be aged for a further 14 months in large 5,000-litre French
oak casks. 

Monastrell has a similar profile to Syrah in that it generally produces full-bodied, rich wines with black fruit, spice (pepper) and some meaty notes. It is ideally suited to the climate of southern Spain because of its tolerance to drought and capacity to produce expressive wines from nutrient-poor soils.
