The story of Le Vigne di Zamo dates back to 1924 when the family opened their Osteria di Manzano; many years later in 1978 the family purchased 5 hectares of vineyards and have since expanded their vineyard holdings to the 35 hectares it occupies today all the while producing iconic Friulian wines. The dedicated team at the winery crafts an array of world class white and red wines from indigenous grapes as well as international varietals. As of 2021 Zamo celebrated their first certified organic harvest.
Tasting Notes
This Pinot Grigio is pinkish, onionskin in colour. The nose reveals fruit and flower aromatics mingling with maturation-derived notes of yeast and crusty bread. Vanilla and a faint hint of smoky toastiness round off the intense bouquet. The mouth filling and rich palate has warmth and breadth, signing off with very savoury acidity and a hint of tannins.
Method
The Pinot Grigio grapes are harvested at the end of August. The grapes are de-stemmed and left to macerate cold overnight. This maceration period between the deeply pigmented Pinot Grigio skins and the juice brings a lovely pink hue to this wine as well as more structure and complexity. After that, the pressing and alcoholic fermentation are carried out in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. After 8 months of aging sur-lies, the wine is bottled and marketed.
