Domaine d’Ardhuy owns 42 hectares of vines in the Cote d’Or.  The vines are managed carefully according to the principles of “lutte raisonnee”; where there is minimum use of chemical treatments thanks to continual management of the soil and vines in order to ensure vineyard health.  Practices such as superficial ploughing during the Spring and Sumner and deep ploughing during vegetative dormancy cut the superficial vine roots and forces the roots deep into the soil for more terroir expression.

Tasting Notes

Golden yellow with a greenish hue in the glass.  The nose is fresh with notes of citrus and crushed rock.  The palate is full and lush with ripe stone fruit and citrus notes. Crisp, dry, mineral. Lightly oaked and wonderfully balanced.  This offers all that concentration and length one expects Meursault.  Enjoy with scallop carpaccio, grilled fish and lobster.

Method

100% 50 year old massal selection Chardonnay.  The soil of Les Pellans vineyard is made up of limestone, silt, marl and clay coming from the erosion of slopes higher up, in this case the famous Meursault Premier Cru “Les Charmes” which is next door.  The slope is shallow and faces east south-east.  The grapes are vinified and aged in according to traditional Burgundy techniques.

Very enjoyable on its own. Lush and interesting with many component flavours. You know you’re drinking something special. A little too much citrus on the finish for my taste but beautifully made. A treat!
