Jean-Baptiste Lebreuil Savigny-les-Beaune “Dessus Les Gollardes” (750ml)

The Jean-Baptiste Lebreuil estate dates back to 1935 and has been in the family for three generations starting with Paul, then Pierre and now Jean-Baptiste.   Initially, Paul owned a few ouvrées of vines (an ouvrée is an old measure of vines used in the Cote d’Or, 1 ouvrée = 428 M² or nearly 24 ouvrées for 1 hectare).  At that time bottle sales were rare; wine was mainly sold in bulk to merchants. 

In 1958, his son Pierre left school to work on the family estate. He took courses in pruning, grafting, and soil management at the Beaune School of Viticulture, as well as oenology courses at the Burgundy Oenological Station. The estate remained small and grew very little. In addition, Pierre Lebreuil worked for other winegrowers in the village to help finance the estate.

After military service, in 1965, Pierre married Odile Charlot, whose grandfather was a winegrower in Chambolle Musigny, but whose vineyards had all been sold to finance the purchase of a bar and tobacco shop!  Pierre and Odile devoted themselves entirely to the estate, which entered a phase of transition and development: the purchase of a winery building and vineyards. The estate now covers 7 hectares. Most importantly, Pierre Lebreuil purchased bottling equipment, as he intended to increase bottled wine sales. 

In 1999, Jean-Baptiste Lebreuil came to work on the estate and took the necessary steps to settle there with his parents. Previously, he had earned a degree in Sales and Marketing of Wines and Spirits from the Beaune Wine School and completed numerous internships in France (Bordeaux) and abroad (Argentina, Australia). He also obtained his Wine and Spirits Broker’s License.

In September 2001, the Pierre Lebreuil estate changed its status and became the Pierre and Jean-Baptiste Lebreuil company. Today the estate is comprised of 13 hectares of vines in the villages of Savigny-lès-Beaune and Aloxe-Corton, Volnay, Pommard and Ladoix-Serrigny.  They produce producing regional, village, and Premier Cru red and white wines.
