The Latest from España
In case you missed them.
Spain’s diverse regions means there’s always something new to discover. The last couple of months have seen some new wines trinkle in and we’d be remiss to not mention them. Diversity in style and grapes is one of the main hooks with Spain but beside that, there’s still incredible value found all throughout the country.

Librandi
New bottles from Italy are here.
Librandi is a third-generation family winery in Calabria, founded in 1953 in Cirò Marina. From the beginning, they have bottled local Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco grapes from small plots in the historic Cirò DOC—an area once known as “Enotria Tellus,” the ancient Greek “Land of Wine.” Today, we’re releasing two approachable bottles from this family winery. They’ll pair perfectly with your weekend plans. Guaranteed.
Librandi is a family run winery in Calabria, southern Italy, going back three generations. It started out in 1953 in Via Tirone, Cirò Marina where they began to bottle wines in their small winery from the local Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco grapes from small plots in the Cirò Doc appellation.
Eastern Calabria was once the home of a flourishing civilisation founded by migrating Greeks. Oenotrus, an Arcadian prince who landed on the coast in the early eighth century BC, wisely governed the fate of the very first Greek colony to settle on Ionian shores. The work of Oenotrus and his people, mostly made up of expert wine-makers, was so well-appreciated by the Greeks that they named the region “Enotria Tellus”: Land of Wine.

Lavantureux
Burgundy royalty has returned.
The Lavantureux family began by making wine for family and friends before Marine and Gervais started selling it in traditional “feuillette” barrels in Auxerre and Paris. In 1979, Roland bottled the wines for the first time, gave his name to the domaine, and expanded it from 5 to 20 hectares of Chardonnay in Lignorelles, just northwest of Chablis. Since 2010, his sons Arnaud (vineyards and cellar) and David (marketing and sales) have worked alongside him, crafting reliably pure, classic Chablis. We’re so happy to see these delicious bottles return from such a famous producer.
Originally, the wine produced by the Lavantureux family was mainly drunk by family and friends. Marine and Gervais, Roland’s paternal grandparents, began to sell the wines from the domaine in “feuilettes” (132 liter barrels, typical of Chablis) in Auxerre and Paris. Roland was the first to bottle the wines in 1979 and it was then that he gave his name to the domaine. He expanded the domaine from 5 hectares to 20 hectares and continued to develop the business in France and abroad. The domaine is about 20 hectares of Chardonnay vines in Lignorelles, about four miles northwest of Chablis. Since 2010 his sons Arnaud and David work alongside him. Arnaud works in the vineyards and cellar, while David takes the lead in marketing and sales. The domaine is known for making no no nonsense reliable and delicious Chablis.

Roland Lavantureux founded the domaine in 1978, farming 19 hectares of Chardonnay vines in Lignorelles, about four miles northwest of Chablis. His two sons now manage the domain. Brothers Arnaud and David Lavantureux continue in the Lavantureux legacy making the their family domaine among the most exciting and reliable names in Chablis. In addition to bottling new cuvées from premier and grand cru sites, they have enacted changes to vineyard and cellar management resulting in the most pure, precise, expressive wines the domaine has ever released.

Roland Lavantureux farms 19 hectares of Chardonnay vines in Lignorelles, about four miles northwest of Chablis. The Domaine was founded in 1978 and now his two sons work alongside him. The region is best-known for the Kimmeridgian soils, a highly-prized terroir of limestone and clay infused with tiny, fossilized oysters. The intense chalk and sea-shell minerality lends deep complexity to whites, making this region an ideal home for the Chardonnay grape.
“In his comprehensive work The Wines of Burgundy, Clive Coates ranks Fourchaume as one of Chablis’ top premiers crus alongside Montée de Tonnerre, consistently flirting with grand cru quality. He points out the parcel’s proximity and similar exposure to the grand cru vineyards, adding that Fourchaume tends to produce “rich and plump” wines.” – Anthony Lynch
