Amaro Averna was born from a recipe created by monks and passed down through generations of the Averna family. Beginning in 1868, Amaro Averna quickly became well known throughout Italy, but it truly took flight as an authentic digestive liqueur in 1895 when Francesco Averna visited King Umberto. It was upon this visit that King Umberto gifted Francesco a gold pin with the insignia of the House of Savoy on it. Furthering their royal recognition, in 1912, Victor Emmanuel the Third granted Averna the honour of placing the royal crest on their label, and they became the official suppliers of to the royal family. In 2014 the company was purchased by Gruppo Campari, who uphold the standards laid in place by the Averna family to ensure a painstakingly perfected amaro.
