Over 30 years ago, Jack Cakebread came to photograph the Napa Valley for a book later that afternoon he purchased a vineyard site and Cakebread Cellars was born. The winery is such a leader in as innovative farming techniques and new methods of reaching out to consumers. Dedication to making the highest quality wines and a commitment to family has followed a continuum as their first small vineyard has grown into a thriving internationally distributed wine company.
The benchlands of Oakville and Rutherford lie along the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains and offer distinctive soil profiles and protective shade, allowing grapes ripen slowly and evenly. This is a classic Napa Valley benchland Cabernet Sauvignon grown in part on the special Hill Ranch that surrounds the home of Jack and Dolores Cakebread.
Tasting Notes
Bright aromas of violets, boysenberry and cherry are followed by characteristic flavors of ripe blackberry, fig, and chocolate that carry over the long finish. Firm, supple tannins give this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wine depth and dimension.
Method
Fermentation of each individual lot happens in small stainless steel tanks and allows the winemaker to select the yeast, temperature, maceration techniques and barrel aging regimens according to the unique personality of this great Napa Cabernet Sauvignon and to capture the finest attribute of each in the final blend before aging in French oak barrels.
