Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur Volnay (750ml)

Vincent Bitouzet has been crafting wines for over thirty years in the heart of the Cote de Beaune, though his ancestral roots date back much further.  His great-great grandfather, M. Gillotte, was mayor of Auxey Duresses in the early 1800s and the Bitouzet line settled in Volnay in 1804.  They were on the of first of the family domaines in this region to bottle their wines and were being recognized for their winemaking talents and quality wines 1860. Vincent’s wife, Annie Prieur, also came from a family of important vignerons long established in the villages of  Meursault and Ladoix. The households merged to create the Bitouzet and Prieur family holdings.

Today, Francois Bitouzet, the only son of Vincent and Annie, is now working hand-in-hand with his parents as he maintains the deep Burgundian roots of his ancestors.   He is based in Volnay and has holdings in Meursault.  The domaine consists of 12 hectares, approximately 4 hectares planted to Chardonnay and the remaining 8 hectares to Pinot Noir. 

They practice organic viticulture; no herbicides or pesticides and limit the use of copper sulfate.  All grapes are hand harvested and classic Burgundian vinification is practiced at this traditional domaine.
